At 10 a.m under an overcast sky, the Canal Volunteer Group met in the car park of Pontnewydd Park and after much `preening` by the `girls, we grouped together for our monthly `photoshoot`
... Our mission, this time was vegetation control and litter removal from the Cascades to Five Locks ...
Starting at the `Cascades`, using our `weed forks` we removed a quantity of pondweed that was hindering the natural and necessary flow of water n.b. the weed was left to drain, thereby allowing any insects etc; to migrate back to the water.
After 3 pleasant hours of jovial banter, weed removal, litter picking/retrieval including some good fun with the grappling hooks plus a half time pit stop for refreshments (I was `mother this time) we accomplished our `goal`.
Our haul this time amounted to:
4 sacks of litter, 3 bicycles, 1 bicycle frame, 1 bicycle tyre, 1 scooter, 1 wheelbarrow, 1 road sign, 1 dvd player complete with lead and plug, but no dvd. 5 tennis balls. 1 boot (right foot, size 6) plus sock, 1 sweater, 1 plastic pipe
