Situated in the Water Garden, Town Centre. Cwmbran`s latest `Work of Art` is a bronze sculpture by the late Adrian Sorrell.

It is dedicated to the memory of Tessa Hodge, founding chairman of Cwmbran Arts Trust.

The only replica of a statue in Hyde Park, given to the People by MEPC plc. in association with Cwmbran Development Corporation.

Unveiled on the 6th July 1982 by Sir Gerald Thorley TD FRICS Chairman of MEPC plc.

Figure1. Caradog, or Caractacus, leader of the Silures who was defeated by the Romans around AD51. Together with his family, he was led in chains through the streets of Rome. His dignified bearing so impressed the Emperor Claudius that he was given his liberty.

Figure 2. The 12th century writer Giraldus refers to the warlike aptitude of the Welsh. Wales became a recruiting ground for soldiers following the annexation of Wales by Edward 1. The Welsh bowmen won the battle against Wallace for Edward ` at Falkirk in1298.

The Bowmen of Gwent led the army of Edward 111, under the Black Prince ( Prince of Wales ) into victory at the battle of Crecy in 1346. Welsh bowmen were again very much involved in the victory of Henry V ( born in Monmouth ) at the Battle of Agincourt in 1415.

Figure2. Is a miner representing one of the industry of the area. The Cwmbran coal mine was opened in 1879. In the early 19th century the Patent Nut and Bolt Co. was producing iron in this area. This company was subsequently bought by Guest Keen and Nettlefold.
