The names on the new `Book of Remembrance` which was unveiled at the base of the cenotaph, on Sunday 1st October 2006, were all residents of Pontnewydd who fell in the Great War of 1914-1918 and the Second World war of 1939- 1945.

Cllr. Mary Barnett Mayor of Torfaen unveils the Book of Remembrance.
The service was conducted by Reverend David Dunn, Chaplain to Pontnewydd British Legion, Chaplain Reverend Harald Thomas, Reverend David Bird of Richmond Road Baptist Church and Mrs. Ann Ziomek of Hope Methodist Church.
- The hymn singing was accompanied by Cwmbran Band members ..
- `The Last Post` and `Reveille` was played by bugler, Mr. Gerry King.
The Welsh Piping Band Band led the procession from the British Legion Head Quarters (Station Road) to the Cenotaph(Lowlands Road)
- The Parade Marshall was R. S. M. I . Neil Edmunds
Invited dignitaries included:- Deputy Lord Lieutenant, Mr. Jack Tenison, the High Sheriff, Mrs. Audrey Hull, Welsh Assembly Minister, Lynne Neagle
.. Although the weather conditions were atrocious, approximately 200 people attended the ceremony ..
Including local school children, representatives of the uniformed organisations, Chairpersons of Cwmbran, Croesyceiliog and Llanyrafon Community Councils, Mr. M Davies of Pontnewydd British Legion; Chairperson of Gwent County Royal British Legion, Mr. T. Regan and relatives of those `fallen` whose names appeared on the `Book of Remembrance`.
- The `Roll of Honour` was read by Mr. M Davies of Pontnewydd British Legion and the Chairperson, Harold Meredith read the `The Kohima Epitaph`.
