Girling Midland Ross Air Actuation Ltd.
Below is a copy of a brochure produced in 1978 for the setting up of `Girling Midland-Ross Air Actuation Ltd` This was a a separate unit set up in Tredegar to produce the air actuation equipment needed to operate the Heavy Duty Braking Systems manufactured at Cwmbran.
The company was 70% Girling and 30% Midland-Ross of U.S.A. In the mid 1980`s it became 100% Girling and the longest company title in the Lucas Group; to be renamed `Lucas Girling Air Actuation Limited`.
In the late 1980`s the company joined forces with a U.S.A./German company `Grau-Berg` and was renamed yet again as `Grau Girling Limited` although this time Lucas had just a 30% share holding.
The factory at Tredegar then took on production of the Heavy Duty ABS `SKIDCHECK` from Tyseley in Birmingham, when that closed. The Tredegar factory also closed in 1988 and production was transferred to Redditch in Worcestershire, using a larger factory that had been previously acquired from `Quinton Hazel`.
In the early 1990`s Girling pulled out of the whole affair and sold their share for a considerable amount; the business eventually ended up in the hands of `Haldex`, another U.S.A. group and is still situated in Redditch.
The General Manager, Bob Edwards emanated from Cwmbran Girling and `Varga`, Brazil. He was succeeded by Jeff Pratt and David Bundred; two names also associated with Cwmbran and New Inn `Lucas Girling` sites.
