This morning, I visited Mount Pleasant Hall (Pontnewydd) to meet my local Torfaen Borough Councillors at their monthly surgery.
Two Councillors were present:-
Councillor Brian Mawby
Councillor Nye James
My purpose, as outlined in the December instalment of Canal Watch 2005 was to heighten awareness to:-
The problems I have observed of siting plastic litterbins on the canal towpath.
The observations I had made regarding several Litterbins left in an unlocked configuration.
I was also concerned that litter clearance along the canal was less frequent during the winter months due to the priority moving to culvert clearing.
To support my observations and concerns I took along a folder of photographs .
The meeting was amiable and positive and I have subsequently been informed:-
The issue of the type of bin is still being considered.
Litter bins will be emptied more frequently than at present.
There will be litter patrols along the canal during the winter period.
Several litterbins to be replaced by others with a different mechanism.
