This photograph appears on the front cover of a book, published in 1988, entitled Rebuilding a Valley , it was written by Philip Riden and commissioned by Cwmbran Development Corporation.

The book describes the origins and buildings of Cwmbran new town from the 1930`s to the winding up of the development corporation in March 1988`.

So folks, as we look back in time what changes can we see   ?

  1. South Wales Electricity Depot - Now Sainsbury's Supermarket.

  2. Dyfed House Office block - now demolished

  3. Multi-storey Car park - now Asda Supermarket.

  4. Health Clinic - Demolished.

  5. Multi-storey Car park - now demolished, future site of  multi Cinema / entertainment complex.

  6. Station Farm Housing Estate.

  7. South Wales Electricity Offices - now demolished.

  8. New facade.

  9. New road added from Cwmbran Drive (which itself follows the original railway line) to roundabout.

  10. Now site of Homebase Store.

  11. New Health Clinic.

Photographed (August 2007) from St. David's Road (Town Centre) this scene shows the `groundwork` preparations for the �15 million  leisure and entertainment complex, comprising of an eight screen cinema, 24 lane bowling alley and several restaurants. The developers are Mint Blue, a Cardiff based company. The complex should be ready for it's first customers in October 2008.
