Canal `Seat` Sculptures
A Public art project implemented in 2001 by TCBC`s Arts Development Team took place in August 2003.
Robert Jakes, renowned international wood sculptor from Pembrokeshire was commissioned to produce a series of carved sculptural seats out of wood to reflect the localities in which they were to be placed along the national cycle route in Torfaen Borough.
Local pupils from Fairwater High School and attendees at Ty-Nant Ddu Resource Centre Pontypool assisted the artist in decorating the sculptural seating with copper and galvanised nails to form decorative images that would imbue each piece with a personal element.
These wonderful seats can be seen along the national cycle route in the following locations:

Railway Museum, Station road, Griffithstown (Rail Carriage)
Canalside, Forge Row, Cwmbran (Anvil and Swage Block)

Two Locks, Old Cwmbran (Pike Bench)
