`Fancy Dress competitions` and Cwmbran Carnival have been very popular over the years .. if you have a photograph or memory you would like to share click  here ..

Webmaster: Here I am aged 5, with my first `girlfriend ` checking out the fabulous but also scary `Welsh Dragon` carnival `float`, entered by the West Pontnewydd Community Association.

.. Circa 1960 ..

Rebecca Dawes relates: This is a photograph of my Great Grandfather, Thomas Herbert Davies Williams who lived at the bottom of Ton Road and his Brother Sam. Not sure who the person in the middle is. `Bert` used to win most `fancy dress` competitions around this time: however my Aunty Louie beat him once !! and here he is pictured holding `Second Prize`

Aunty Louie wins `First Prize` and Bert, holding  his `Second Prize` certificate ..

Here is one which I would like to try and find out about?

The man seated is my Great Grandfather, Thomas Herbert Davie Williams, however we are unable to identify the man who is standing behind him. Thomas or `Bert` as he was known, was born in the Great Western railway house near the Clock tower, which I believe is the house over the shop next to the chip shop in Commercial Street, Old Cwmbran.
