Malcolm Thomas relates:
Albert Sanders far right and Dai Brooks next to him, both gentlemen were
from Blaenavon . Albert was a Checker (Shop Control) working for Don
Breddy, Albert covering 364 section. Dai was a Chargehand on the Damper
section, if I remember correctly.
I worked for the company from 1963 - 1994 amongst other things as taking
over from Nobby Clark as Wages Controller, before going on to Girling
Midland Ross, the air brake business at Tredegar and Redditch then back
to Cwmbran in the days of Dave Bundred and Jeff Pratt before taking an
early retirement.
John Jenkins (South Africa) relates:
To the left of Bill Barton
as you look at the picture is `Ike` Thomas, I also worked in the WED,
(Works Engineering Department), and Ike was a neighbour of mine when I
lived in the UK.

Jo Griffiths---(nee Josie Williams).
I remember Girlings Apprentices
very well---in fact Lyn Clarke was my first "real" romance I
now live quite close to another "old boy"--Peter Morrell,
and I have seen Russell Ivory several times since (but not
recently).
My father was the steward of the
old Girlings Social Club, which was housed in 2 Nissan huts
on the sports ground.
We used to have great dances in
the works canteen and I used to walk home to Coronation
Street via the "Burma Road". Thanks for reminding me of some
idyllic times!!
I now live in Caerleon, but
frequently pop to Cwmbran to shop although, very little of
it is recognisable as the happy hunting grounds of those
golden years.
