.. Poster Department ..
Owing to the inexperience of the workers directed to this Factory, the Poster Department was set up in an endeavour to educate them through the medium of posters.
Our artist - a local man - produced very fine and attractive posters appealing for Co-operation. He also sought to make the workers `factory-minded'; to avoid waste; to prevent scrap; eliminate absenteeism ; to aim for peak production.
These posters were eagerly looked for and scrutinised by the workers.
Good feeling was also created in the Factory by the caricatures exhibited in the Canteen, Each week a fresh subject was drawn, ranging from the Higher Management to the Factory labourer. These were viewed with loud applause and great hilarity .
Whatever Factory Drive was in progress, posters to illustrate were made to induce the workers to assist , e.g.National Savings and Social Club activities .
The main theme of the Department during the War was to promote the war effort, and to create a team spirit throughout the Factory. In fact, our slogan was 'Co-operation is everything' .
The aim of the Department was, without doubt, achieved. Each month our schedule was met, and visitors to this Factory, without exception, expressed surprise at the grand team spirit. operating in such a large organisation.
