Sheila Oswalt (nee Sqire) January 2008: I remember Christopher Compton and his sister Judith. We all attended Llantarnam School in the 1960's. I remember Judith being around the same age as my brother Graham and she played a flute in the school band. Christopher was a little older than I but we knew each other as neighbour friends....he lived on the corner of South Road, Oakfield and we lived just up the street on Fields Road.  I am currently residing in Tucson, Arizona, USA. This is a brilliant website and I thank you for keeping it alive!

David Tancock -13th July 2006

I have recognized myself and my best mate at that time in the under twelves for Cwmbran Celtic - I am the little boy who is standing in front of Jack Peploe, my best mate Kevin Clare is the last boy on the bottom row next to Alan Ralph.
This photo was taken in front of the catholic school hall in Southville where it happens I still live , Kevin now lives in West Pontnewydd and is still involved in football as he runs a junior side.Also in the photograph is Mike Meaney also from Southville but I cant be 100% sure which one he is.

Beverley Charlton (nee Hopkins) responds:  I recognise my brother Max Hopkins (kneeling) and my cousin Adrian Tamplin (standing behind him) on the judo team photo. Max later went on to get his black belt before quitting. He later married a local girl from Oakfield and  has been living in the U.S.A. for 20 years now, presently in San Antonio, Texas. He was delighted to see the picture, which was taken when he had injured his left leg, which is why he is balancing on one knee.

George Gwynne responds: Mike Brookes is still living in Cwmbran. I have not seen him playing football but he can be seen playing crib in the Blinkin� Owl Public House, close to where he lives in Trostrey

My cousin DAVE SCRASE is currently doing missionary work abroad. He�s a teacher in, I think, Basingstoke.He lives in a beautiful little village called St. MARYBOURNE , near Newbury.Sadly his wife passed away last year. He has a daughter, Sian and a son Dan.

Dave wears the red of WALES with pride in the village pub on match days and , despite the all too familiar losses (not this season 2008, C`mon Wales) he takes like it like a man.

But when we beat the `Lillywhites` he is modest in victory , applauds their efforts and skill etc. etc;  but inwardly he says �You can stick your blooming chariots where you like�!!!!

.. THE GREEN TEAM  ..

.. On the 12th of June 1993, `THE GREEN TEAM` made up of `environmentally friendly youngsters` from the Ashley House Youth Centre (Pontnewydd) assembled for a photograph of their proud achievement..... clearing and collecting, discarded `litter` from their local `stretch` of the Monmouthshire and Brecon canal`.

Over the following two years `THE GREEN TEAM` together with local Scout, Cubs and Brownie groups, Sea Cadets and members of the public supported by Torfaen Borough Council, Cwmbran Community Council, and The Keep Wales Tidy Organisation , on several occasions enthusiastically, took part in `Canal clean ups` which I organised, (webmaster- Chris Evans look-a-like, Back row !x! ) on the 5 Locks section of the Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal in Pontnewydd. 

 During that period, six thousand Daffodil bulbs were planted on the banks of the Locks, Several Litter bins and even a `Doggie Poo Loo` were installed together with the collection and disposal of `discarded rubbish` to fill several large skips. 

On the 29th of October 1993,`THE GREEN TEAM` were awarded a `HIGHLY COMMENDED` certificate for their achievements in the `TIDY WALES AWARDS` at a ceremony held at Cardiff Castle.
