.. Photographs contributed/showing Cathy Harper and her sister playing on the Steamroller ..
Darren Powis relates:: These photographs are of the old steam roller that once stood cold, steamless and fixed in concrete for many years, just off Fairhill, not far from The Threepenny Bit. If memory serves me right, it was there until sometime in the 1980s and disappeared when the area was redeveloped. We used to play on that old engine and it was great fun to imagine it rolling along! I can't imagine such a thing being allowed today with Health & Safety waiting to swoop on the `slightest little thing`. Thanks again, for bringing back some marvellous memories of the old home town!

.. Hmm, I wonder where I would have seen this ? ..
June Tamplin relates: This is Nightingale Row (now demolished) at the bottom of Ty Box Road - Pontnewydd, when it was a cul-de-sac. It looks so incongruous now! I should imagine this picture was taken in the late sixties or very early seventies. Although it looks very familiar I find it hard to remember the cottages, the only thing that springs to mind is finding lots of slow worms under corrugated tin sheets in the gardens
Ralph & Margaret Williams relate: It is Nightingale Row. You had to cross the canal over a little bridge to get to the houses.
Steven Morgan relates: This is a photo of Nightingale Row. It was at the bottom of Ty Box road which can be seen on the left of the photo.I used to deliver milk there when I was a boy. There are blocks of flats there now.
Colin Bowen relates: What a nice photograph of `old` Nightingale Row`, brings back so many memories; I recall the small footbridge over the canal leading to the `Row` ... There were other ways to get there by the way of Church Road, down behind the school to what we used to call Wood Bury, turn left along the path, past `Church Woods` turn left again down to Nightingale Row.

.. I wonder where I saw this abandoned WILKINSON store trolley ? ..

..On the grass verge at the junction of Greenhill Road and Woodside Road. .. I reported it to the Store 22/01/09
Joe responds: I used to live in Cwmbran in Pontnewydd until I was 20 and I have moved to Sunderland now, I still have family there and I think the picture is of the Wilkinson trolley at the bottom of Greenhill road, down from the Bottom Bridge pub on the junction where it meets Woodside road at the top of Forgehammer industrial estate. In the background you can see the carpet shop in the ground's of Aldis car park. Just across the road from the trolley is where the kebab van trades from at night....And that kebab van interestingly was the first in Cwmbran and originally traded from the Pontnewydd Legion car park!!
Webmaster: Nothing seems to have changed over the years, this photograph circa 1980`s, contributed by Colin Bowen, formerly of Chapel Street shows two abandoned trolleys in the `Goods Yard` alongside the disused railway line (now Cwmbran Drive) Pontnewydd.
