Nevil Olufson (Parry) responds:
I have just been looking at some of the photos of Llantarnam School. The last one was the Senior Rugby XV 1969 - 1970. I remember Christopher Vann quite well. Adrian Snellgrove and his family I used to know very well. Adrian and my brother Stephen Parry (Olufsen) _ nick name Olly, were very good friends.
All of our family went to Llantarnam Secondary Modern School. Linda Olufsen, Stephen Olufsen (Parry), Julie Parry, myself Nevil Parry (1971-1975) and Adele Parry who went on to Oxford University. One of my sons went there as well. In one of the photographs is Sandy the dog. I can remember Sandy and Mr. Waters the History teacher very well. If we had History as our first lesson in the morning, Mr. Waters would sit at his desk eating a bowl of porridge with Sandy at his side. ..... One day when it was raining he told one of the girls to go and put her coat over his car.
Mr Sheen, the Geology teacher, one day showed me a brilliant photograph of my brother and others on a geology outing to Ogmore. A few years ago I went to a school reunion at Fairwater. Dave Paley, Mr Wilcox, the Headmaster (can't remember his name now ) and a few others turned up.
How about Mr Chard (Technical Drawing), Mrs Rosie (Music), Mrs Heals (Chemistry)? If you didn't have P.E. (Physical Education) kit you would get a slap from Terry Cobner's trainer and made to run around the field in your pants. If you weren't too bright in English you would get hit with a flying black-board rubber by Mr Gibbs. If you spoke in Assembly you would get the cane from Mr. Dick Edwards .
Can I say my most memorably moment at Llantarnam School was after Terry Cobner scored a try for Wales in his debut international. Every pupil and teacher were at the front of the school when he came in on the following Monday morning; we gave him a most fantastic welcome.
